“Greencademy – Adventure Jungle Camps” was more than just a project – it was an invitation to see the world with different eyes and overcome one’s own limits. The young people and young adults from the north and southeast of Erfurt went on a journey of discovery in which they not only actively shaped their surroundings, but also got to know themselves in a new way. In the urban gardens they found not only a space for creativity and self-realization, but also a platform to realize their ideas and visions for a sustainable and livable city. The project showed how important it is to inspire young people about the topics of sustainability, responsibility and community. It has broken down barriers, challenged prejudices and paved the way for a new generation of urban designers. What began in the jungle camps was not just the cultivation of plants, but the growth of perspectives, trust and cohesion. With Greencademy we have ignited a spark that goes far beyond the boundaries of the gardens. The experiences and insights from the camps are a strong foundation for the future – a future in which young people take the design of their environment and their living reality into their own hands. And perhaps it is precisely this “urban jungle” – a mixture of nature, creativity and community – that has opened up a new, greener perspective on the world for the young participants.
The added value of the project:
The Greencademy jungle camps were more than just leisure activities – they were a
journey to new opportunities, challenges and experiences. In various
camps, the young people delved deeply into the topic of “urban gardens” and experienced
how they can help shape and change their own living space. The camps not only promoted practical knowledge of gardening and ecological principles, but
also the development of personal responsibility and teamwork. The participants discovered
the importance of sustainability and direct engagement with their environment,
which gave them a better understanding of their own role in the urban context.
At the Greencademy, the participants value the opportunity to exchange ideas, which enabled them
to break down prejudices and strengthen the sense of community. Young people
from different social and cultural backgrounds developed new ideas and visions
of community living in a sustainable and modern environment.
The highlight of the Greencademy was the city jungle – urban gardens in the middle of Erfurt, which the young people created and use. These gardens not only offered a green retreat, but also a place for learning, experimentation, creativity and meeting people. The young people were responsible for planning and maintaining these gardens and saw the direct impact of their actions on the environment. The gardens are living examples of the possibilities for transforming urban space. The participants learned to value and protect their living space – for a sustainable and livable future.
