We have been supporting the Sounds of the world project since 2021. The music project “Sounds of the world” is a community project: people from different regions, with different cultures and different talents come together and shape the local music and cultural scene in our region. They create the opportunity for people to come together regardless of gender, income, age, origin, religion or level of education.
The project focuses on the European and non-European aspect of bringing people together through music. In a previous project funded by the Commissioner for Migration and Integration, Ms. Mirjam Kruppa, ensembles were formed that brought together musicians from Latvia, Spain, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, the Czech Republic, Nigeria, Syria, the Kurdish region, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Argentina and Germany and linked them together in a local network in Erfurt. Despite difficult conditions during the corona pandemic, it was possible to organize a joint concert in September 2020 as part of the Intercultural Week and thus convey the joy of music, but also the bond between the musicians* to an audience through music.
We helped “Sounds of the world” to have their musicians play their songs on eight Sundays in 2021 on the Petersberg as part of the exhibition “At home in Thuringia – portraits of immigrants” and to inspire visitors with small, cozy garden concerts and invite them to linger for a short time.
